After completing medical school, Dr Punukollu had marvellous experiences as a junior doctor in Liverpool and the Wirral. He then went on to complete psychiatry training in busy Central London teaching hospitals (mainly Chelsea and Westminster and Charing Cross Hospitals) seeing patients with complex and acute mental health disorders.
Dr Punukollu thoroughly enjoyed his training days, passing all of his Royal College of Psychiatrists membership examinations first time whilst undertaking a considerable amount of research and getting papers published, also gaining a wealth of management experience from leaders in the field of psychiatry with whom he was lucky enough to be trained early on in his career. Along the way he gained enduring friendships with some remarkable colleagues. He then went on to complete a Diploma in Management with Merit from the University of London, examined by the London School of Economics.
Over the last 10 years Dr Punukollu has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust where he is Lead Consultant for Substance Misuse Services and in private practice at The Nightingale Hospital. In both settings he has gained a good deal of experience in seeing patients with a range of psychiatric disorders.
Dr Punukollu has leading roles in education and research. He regularly lectures medical students at UCL and is Training Programme Director for the North Central London Psychiatry training programme.
During his spare time Dr Punukollu enjoys travelling to see different countries and cultures. He enjoys going to the gym and sports including golf, tennis and swimming. He loves spending time with his two young children.
